The Family Engagement and Cultural Effectiveness conference is designed to celebrate the different cultures, traditions and practices that are reflected in the modern family. In so doing, participants learn how to use the strengths and attributes of culture to aid a child’s own successful walk through the world.
Dr. Wilson will be speaking during this event as attendees hear about how to “break the cycle” of poverty in their city.

JPS Health Network is hosting the 2019 JPS Research Symposium Friday, June 7th, 2019. The symposium will be held at the Riley Center at Southwestern, located at 1701 W. Boyce Avenue Fort Worth, TX 76115 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
The theme for this year’s research symposium is “Fostering Health Equity through Research and Practice”. The topic of Health Equity comprises a growing international initiative to diminish healthcare disparities and promote research focused on solutions.
The event will have keynote speakers with esteemed expertise in health equity. Dr. Marcella Wilson is the author of Diagnosis Poverty: A new approach for understanding and treating an epidemic. In her newest role, President and Founder of Transition to Success™, Dr. Wilson is leading a national social change movement with a standard of care to treat poverty as an environmentally based medical condition. In addition to Dr. Wilson, we will be joined by the American Heart Association, who is proactively leading initiatives addressing the health inequities and disparities that exist in our country.
The symposium will provide a forum for JPS and Tarrant County community researchers to share research insights and ideas via poster and podium presentation sessions. Researchers, including clinicians and students, are encouraged to exchange innovations, ideas, and experiences in clinical practice and research.

The Community Impact Town Hall is a community-wide gathering that features a national keynote speaker to heighten local awareness on alleviating poverty. The speaker share national successes and best practices on ways we move ahead in this fight against poverty. In true town hall fashion, the event will close with a participatory audience dialogue around solutions to fight Mid-South poverty.
The United Way of the Mid-South implemeneted Driving The Dream, their new system of care that collaborates with health and human services agencies to help drive the dreams of the Mid-South community. In honor of their 95th anniversary, who better to speak on the topic of poverty and economic mobility, than the woman who developed the model for their system, Marcella Wilson.
